Where The Bike Takes Me

Continuing this journey of cycling in efforts to get into shape, lose weight, enjoy the outdoors, and save my knees from their arthritic state at 28 years of age.

A friend of mine pointed me out to this little piece of retro heaven that Gap is apparently toting around this year.  Sweeeeeetttt . . .

A truly original Gap gift, designed exclusively for us by Electra Bicycle Company. In our signature argyle pattern.

First Indoor Training Class with Melissa Dalio November 9, 2008

So, I’m behind in some blog posting.  I meant to blog about how The BIke Lane in Reston was holding classes for Yoga and indoor training classes twice a week starting this month.  The indoor training class is either Wednesday morning or Sunday morning and costs $30 for a month.  Last year, I was thinking about how great it would be if there was a place I could take a spinning-type class in the winter months where I wouldn’t have to commit myself for a year.  With these classes in Reston, I sign up monthly.

I missed last week’s first class since I was in Orlando on vacation but I did go today.  We worked on leg speed.  I was clearly the most inexperienced out of everyone (that always seems to be the case.)  There were four of us.  We worked for 1.5 hours on cadence and pedaling techniques using intervals.  The 1-legged intervals were PAINFUL.  You wouldn’t think that it would be difficult to do these but they are.  I challenge you to maintain a cadence of 90 RPM with a clean pedal stroke for 2 minutes.

I came home after the a stop at the Starbucks for one of their Banana-chocolate drinks (yum!) and a quick stop at the craft store.  I promptly passed out.  I am TIRED and I know I’ll be sore tomorrow.  My quads are kinda fatigued but nothing like that Pilates class I attempted a few weeks ago.  This’ll be good for me even if it may hurt a bit.  This is what I need to motivate me at the moment.

Local coffee shop offers ‘Bicycle Benefits’ – Green Daily August 21, 2008

Because I don’t have time to blog properly. . I’ll just share this:

Local coffee shop offers ‘Bicycle Benefits’ by Laura Malesich Aug 21st 2008 @ 4:51PM

Typical of most days for me I am sitting in a coffee shop blogging. (Thank goodness for Americanos and molasses cookies today!) Enjoying my treats and typing away I look up to the glass window and discover this subtle little sticker that says “At this location your Bicycle Benefits get you: A 12oz Coffee FREE!” Always feeling guilty about my coffee-addiction expenses I stare in disbelief. Racing to type in the web info to make sure this isn’t some mean trick I discover Bicycle Benefits — an organization that promotes those businesses in the U.S. who have made the commitment to offer their cycling, earth-friendly customers a discount. Order a sticker, place it on your helmet, and proceed into the nearest Bicycle Benefits business in your area. (So far it looks like that is limited to British Columbia, Colorado, Montana, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Utah and Wisconsin).
