Continuing this journey of cycling in efforts to get into shape, lose weight, enjoy the outdoors, and save my knees from their arthritic state at 28 years of age.

Local Events April 25, 2007

  • March 2, 2008- VASA Ride
    • Join WABA and the Embassy of Sweden in celebrating Sweden’s famed ski race and festival Vasaloppet by bike! Jump start your riding season on this fun event, with options for riders of all abilities!
  • April 6, 2008 – CycleFest 2008 at Wakefield Park

    • Cyclefest at Wakefield Park. Enjoy a day completely dedicated to the sport of cycling. You will be able to demo the latest Trek, Lemond, Gary Fisher mountain and road bikes. Attend seminars including yoga for cyclists, core training for the cyclist, commuting basics, adventure racing 101, road and mountain bike clinics, bike fit and maintenance sessions, bike travel trips, and much more. We are adding more seminars everyday. Local experts and cycling’s top of the line manufacturers will be on hand to show you everything you want to know about the latest and greatest in cycling.
  • April 12, 2008 – Architectural Bike Tour along the Potomac River
    • Participants in this self guided tour along the Virginia side of the Potomac River will be given information about points of interest between Theodore Roosevelt Island and Old Town Alexandria. Tour packets will provide information on each highlighted site.
  • April 26, 2008 – Pedaling for Peace
    • On Saturday, April 26, The William Penn House is holding a fundraising bike ride to support their programs. “Pedaling for Peace” will consist of three levels of rides (40 miles, 26 miles, and a family fun ride). Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children. All proceeds support programs at the William Penn House that include Washington Quaker Work Camps, Teachers of Peace, and developing programs to address HIV in the Capital City, and other equality and justice issues. Bicycle rentals will be available for $25.
  • April 27, 2008 – ROAR! Ride for Autism

    • The fourth annual ROAR event will feature activities for participants of all ages, including some new and exciting elements. In addition to the 25 and 10-mile recreational bike rides, serious cyclists will have now the opportunity to tackle the challenging 50-mile route, while families will enjoy the low-mileage, youth fun ride and one of the area’s best playgrounds.
  • May 16, 2008 – Bike to Work Day – DC
    • Join thousands of area commuters for a celebration of bicycling as a clean, fun and healthy way to get to work!
  • May 17-18, 2008 – Bike MS 2008
    • Bike MS connects people, creating friendships that last a lifetime and a committment that can impact people’s lives today and tomorrow. That’s what it’s all about. From start to finish, we are on the move… wheels are always spinning, advancing research to find a cure for a disease that affects hundreds of thousands across the country.
    • June 7, 2008 – Arlington & Alexandria Community Ride
      • Grab your family and friends and bring ‘em all out to Arlington & Alexandria Community Bike Ride on Sunday, June 3, 2007. This non-competitive riding event will give you a fun, first-hand view of some of the best trails, bike routes and facilities Arlington & Alexandria have to offer!
